2018 has finally arrived, the festive season has been wrapped up and put away for another year and it’s now time to focus on YOU.

New goals and new resolutions have been set and it’s time to start planning an exciting new year ahead – holidays, special birthdays, date nights and family time will all be valuable moments to cherish and enjoy.

Explore a blend of city, coast and country throughout Hampshire

Whether it’s a weekend staycation, a date night, family day out or a night out to celebrate, our lovely county of Hampshire is beautiful and we often forget about some of the enjoyable and exciting things we can do right here in our back-yard.

For the kids:

If you’ve got little ones (or grandkids) and you’re wanting them to burn off as much energy as possible on a great day out, there’s a ton of activities out there!

For the younger ones, why not take them to Peppa Pig World, just 45 minutes from The Red Lion. It re-opens for school half-term holidays, from Sunday 11th February 2018. They are currently working hard adding two brand new Peppa Pig rides to the park, which will be available from Wed 16th May 2018.

Marwell Zoo is another classic day out to enjoy with the little ones and super educational (just 40 minutes away)! The zoo remains open all year-round and is currently in the process of their annual animal stock-take.

Having seen the early daffodils already surfacing, Spring is definitely on the horizon, why not book ahead and enjoy a Family Kayaking Taster Course at Hawley Lake Sail Training Centre. They have day courses starting from Sat 28th April 2018 onwards (from £58). Alternatively, Alice Holt has just launched its brand new forest trail, focusing on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s book The Highway Rat.  Follow the panels, complete activities and interact with the forest as you head on a journey with The Highway Rat and all the characters from the story. Don’t forget to wrap up warm, pack some snacks and take the kids bikes to make a day of it!

For the grown ups:

If you’re preferring some adult time-out, head to Alpine Snowsports Aldershot and brush up on your skiing and snowboarding skills – private lessons start from £50.  Fancy a day out learning more about local gin brand, Bombay Sapphire? They have a range of experiences varying between 1.5 – 3hours duration. If you want a romantic stroll, why not head to Fleet Pond; a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, Fleet Pond is the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire. Sit by the water and let the beautiful birds, butterflies and dragonflies flutter around you and enjoy a peaceful stroll as you catch up with one another.

Whisk your other half away on a romantic escape

If you’re looking for a weekend away with your Valentine, we have some great offers here at The Red Lion.  Enjoy delicious sharing boards, a glass of bubbles and perhaps your favourite red wine… and make a night of it, by snuggling up in our fluffy dressing gowns and finishing the night off with a board-game or two in one of our beautiful 7 en-suite bedrooms (which were awarded a 9/10 in a recent review by the travel team at The Telegraph).

This January we have lots of enticing dishes to warm you up and keep the cold at bay, including a whole menu of glorious gluten-free delights including our Steak & St. Peter’s Dark Ale Pie and pan-fried breast and confit of duck. Every day we have daily specials, which is Chef’s opportunity to utilise an array of local and in-season produce… so don’t forget to check the special’s board before you place your order! Make sure to check our website for latest news, blogs, offers and money-off vouchers.
